YOSHIKI: Is that so?

SUGIZO: Yes. It's an event that started when we were in the middle of friendly rivalry with X and other powerful bands in the live house scene. It's wonderful to think that after 30 years we can build a new monument towards the world with it.

-- Express your determination towards the festival.

SUGIZO: Both LUNA SEA and GLAY trained under X JAPAN and started from there, so we are siblings that have the same roots. Now there are many powerful young artists out there. How will this Japan's violent rock go over generations and senses, and grow as a part of culture that we can be proud of? What started in the end of 80's to 90's can go far, depending on our actions. The three of us, who became the base of this genre, want to hold Japan on our shoulders and stand on the stage.

TAKURO: This festival will be held in 2016, so I believe it will be appreciated after about 10 or 20 years from now, and that makes me excited. The word "visual-kei" is quite delicate, and some bands don't like it. But that's not what we are trying to say. What we are saying is that if there are bands who are confident of their music and the way they express it with their bodies, and who say it's their life, we want to help them. This is the first time we are doing this and we don't know how it will turn out to be after we raise the lid, but I still can't stop being excited for it.

YOSHIKI: People overseas often ask me, "what is visual-kei?". When I explain to people overseas what it is, I always say, "visual-kei is a freedom of expression." I was influenced by KISS and David Bowie, thought that any genre would be fine, and mixed it all up without knowing the rules. Then they couldn't fit me into any genre. But I thought, "Why do I have to follow the manual when doing rock? Who made the manual?". ToshI, PATA, HIDE and TAIJI understood that vision I had. It all started from having no rules, and expressing ourselves as we wanted. Then SUGIZO and members of LUNA SEA also understood the vision, and then it expanded to GLAY.... Visual-kei isn't about if you are wearing make-up or not, it's about doing what you believe in. 99.99% of the time visual-kei was turned down. But us, the 0.01%, spread that genre. With the same feelings as we had back then, we will now give all we have to what we believe and now spread it to the world.
