Do you know the mannequin dance duo called FEMM?
They are almost unknown in Japan but popular in countries outside Japan...

FEMM tells the world about themselves as "the living dolls". They made their debut without being seen as a mannequin dance duo this April. Their song "Fxxk Boyz Get Money" released this summer caused a buzz all over the world starting from the U.S. This song was shared one after another by famous bloggers and YouTubers who have hundreds of thousands of followers, including Miles Jai. This popularity of this song is growing.

On September 22th, Perez Hilton, who has approximately 5,900,000 followers on Twitter and called the most influential blogger, posted the article that introduces that song as a new twerk anthem. His critical articles often cause controversy, but, on the other hand, many artists achieved success in North America thanks to his high evaluation. On present showing, he seems to acclaim FEMM.

Meanwhile, FEMM official YouTube channel got 1,300,000 views only in the latest one and a half month. The enrollment figures of this channel mushroomed to 12,000. We have found that more than half of the viewers accessed from North America, and in the second place, Europe hold a share of 10%. Japan has only a 6% share and three-quarters of accesses were from English-speaking countries, which is an unusual situation for the Japanese artist.

In this kind of situation, it's often the case that the biggest fan base consists mostly of fanboys, but in the case of FEMM, the scene is starkly different. According to the record label they belong to, in total number of views on YouTube of "Fxxk Boyz Get Money" described above, the breakdown of genders and ages shows that 70% of viewers are women, plus the greater part of them are committed by women in 10s to early 20s. They perform the gyrating dance called "TWERK" and the provocative song title gives an impression of not for women, but actually, their lyrical contents are completely opposite. According to fans' comments, the most common words are "my anthem/motto". FEMM is capturing the hearts of girls all over the world as a spokeswoman, and their songs are "theme songs for girls".

The credited writers of their songs released until now are all popular producers in Europe and the U.S. including Brian Michael Cox, who is a regular attender of the Grammy Award. They have produced prominent artists: from the currently famous songstresses including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Ray Cyrus, Rihanna, to the legends including Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears. In addition, the credited writers includes Sofia Toufa (who is famous for the collaboration with EDM top creators such as Skrillex and deadmau5), ROBOPOP (who have some popular bands including Coldplay, Maloon 5, Owl City) and Ben Preston.

The Japanese choreographer team who made their own interpretation of FEMM's concept "the living dolls" and choreographed all songs was Hidali, the up-and-coming team that surprised the people all over the world by choreography for WORLD ORDER and received requests from will.i.am, a member of The Black Eyed Peas, and Missy Elliott.

FEMM is characterized by the combination of Japanese visual effects and their cosmopolitan character: they are not fussy about creating works in Japan and their songs are written by various creators of the world. That's why they sustain global expansion in the different way from the other Japanese artists. On October 1st, they released their first full album titled "Femm-Isation" all over the world.

The other day, the PV of "Whiplash", the main track on this album, was displayed for the first time. This PV is directed by IKIOI, the hottest creators unit in the music video business. This PV shows their geometric and complicated choreography, like a superbrain puzzle, in the one-shot, which gives us a new sensation. As backup dancers, in addition to Numbers No:Z who won the annual championship in Apollo Theater, New York, many other dancers necessary for Hidali's works, such as Kikky、JUNKOO and 0UT L1VE, were gathered. Hidali says, "It's an all-star-team that may never come again!"
