The popular manga "Ooku/大奥" of Yoshinaga Fumi is going to be adapted into movie and cast Arashi member Ninomiya Kazunari and Shibasaki Kou. The shooting will start from April.
"Ooku", with the background in which the positions of man and woman was reversed when the male population decreased sharply by a mysterious epidemic, describes the story between the female Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune (Shibasaki) and the son of the poor direct feudatory of a shogun, Mizuno Yuunoshin (Ninomiya). The original comic is awarded the Excellence Prize in the 10th Japan Media Arts Festival and the best manga in the 13th Osamu Tezuka Culture Award because of the refreshing setting and precise description.
Ninomiya: "It's my first historical movie and first time to costar with Ms. Shibasaki. I am impressed with various 'first time'. I wan to keep the refreshing mood and create the new historical movie with all the staff together." Although he played a role in the movie "Letters from Iwo Jima/硫黄島からの手紙" in 2006, it has been 7 years since his last lead role in the movie "Ao no Honō/青の炎".
Shibasaki also commented on the movie: "It's quite persuasive in the comic describing the world in which the man and woman are reversed. And I can feel the spirit of the woman which is common with the ones of modern times. Although it's my first time to play in the historical movie, I will try to express the peace (Wa/和) with deep emotion and be creative."
In addition, Horikita will play the role of "Onobu" who is the childhood friend and in love with Mizuno. And Tamaki Hiroshi will special cast the ambitious "Matsushima" who is the elite and the favor of the Shogun! "With the novel point of view of the original manga, I was attracted into the world immediately. As one of the members of Ooku, I wan to create the role of Matsushima as good as the original work." said Tamaki.
Let's wait and see a different side of Ninomiya in the work with special world value.
