Super Junior, is a boy band formed in South Korea under the record label SM Entertainment in 2005. With it's thirteen members, Super Junior is the largest boyband in the world. Led by Leeteuk, Super Junior consits Leeteuk, Kibum, Heechul, Hankyung, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Siwon, and Ryeowook. Hankyunh is the only foreign member of Super Junior, after being chosen amongst three thousand applicants in a Chinese audition for SM Entertainment back in 2001.

In the last four years, Super Junior has released and/or contributed to twenty different record, each record ranging in a different degrees of success. Also, they have been split into four different sub-groups, each sub-group targeting a different genre and audience. Due to Super Junior's success, many Korean entertainment companies have begun to train their groups in acting and hosting. Not only have they earned commerical success, but they have also recieved: seven music awards at the M.Net Asian Music Awards, eleven music awards from the Golden Disk Award (including Album of the Year and Daesang) and is the second singing group after JTL and third SM artist after BoA and Kangta to win Favorite Artist Korea at the MTV Asia Awards in 2008.

Super Junior was originally created as the Korean version of Morning Musume, each year a few memebers would be replaced in order to keep the band young and well rounded. It was rumored that at first, Super Junior was called O.V.E.R (Obey the Voice for Each Rhythm), but soon the name Super Junior was thought up when SM simply referred to them as Junior, a representation of the members' young ages when they first became SM trainees, soon after, they showcased their talents at a company picnic and officially earning the name Super Junior. Originally, the group was named Super Junior 05, or better known as the first generation of Super Junior. Super Junior 05 made their pre-debut on Mnet on September 11, 2005, showcasing different variations of hip-hop dancing.Whilst it was recorded on September 11, 2005, it wasn't aired until May 16, 2006 in an episode of the "Super Junior Show", the band's own television documentary.

November 6, 2005 marks the date of Super Junior 05's debut, appearing on SBS's "Popular Songs" music program. They performed their first single, "TWINS(Knock Out)" and on November 8, 2005 a digital single with "TWINS(Knock Out), "You Are The One", as well as three additional tracks was released online. While a physical single was to be produced the next week, a full length album, "SuperJunior05 (TWINS)", was released on December 6, 2005 instead. This album sold 28,536 copies in the first month and debuted at number three on the monthly music charts for December 2005. Soon they released "Show Your Love", a single that was a collaboration with label mates, TVXQ. The single sold 49,945 copies and was the number one single of December 2005.

February 2006, Super Junior 05 started performances for "Miracle", the second promotional single from their debut album. "Miracle" not only was a huge success in Korea (after peaking number one on the online music charts), but in Thailand as well when the single debuted at number one on a music chart in the country and thus, drawing in interests from international markets. Soon, promotions for "Miracle" ceased and SM Entertainment began to select new members for the next generation named Super Junior 06. Although both new members and members to be replaced were listed, no member was added or removed and a thirteenth member was added in May of 2006. With the rotational project abandoned, the group was officially named Super Junior and the suffix 05 was dropped.

Cho Kyuhyun, the thirteenth member was finally revealed on May 23, 2006. He had been discovered through a singing competition in 2005. Two days after the revealing of Kyunhyun, Super Junior released their single "U" for online download on their official website. Having over 400,000 downloads within five hours of its release, "U" ended up exceeding 1.7 million downloads, crashing the server. The physical single of "U", which included a total of three tracks, was released on June 6, 2006, selling over 81,000 copies. That single became one the most popular singles of the year in Korea, as well as yielding the number one spot for five consecutive weeks on two of Korea's top music programs. The ending of 2006 brought seven awards in five of South Korea's top music award ceremonies, including the tilte as Best New Group of 2006.

On November 5, 2006, Super Junior's first sub-unit debuted on KBS's music program, Music Bank. Members Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung formed Super Junior-K.R.Y, a ballad trio who's song "The One I Love" was the theme song for the drama 'Hyena'. Leeteuk, Shindong, Heechul, Kang In, Sungmin, Eunhyuk came together in early 2007 to form the second Super Junior sub-unit, Super Junior-T. The trot influenced sub-unit made their debut in February 2007, releasing their single "Rokkugo" on February 23, 2007 and debuting on 'Popular Songs' two days after the release.

While Super Junior's second album "Don't Don" was set for release in late September, a car accident involving Kyunhyun, Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, Shindong, and two managers on April 19, as well as another car accident involving Heechul on August 10 caused major setbacks and thus, the release of "Don't Don" was pushed back to September 20, 2007. Within the first three days of release, offline album sales for Don't Don passed the 11,000 unit mark, debuting as #1 in all available offline charts. It finished the September monthly album sales as #1. 60,000 units were shipped by the first week of release and additional copies were printed. Even though "Don't Don" recieved bland reviews from critics, it still became the number two best selling album in 2007, selling over 160,000. Again, Super Junior found success not only in Korea, but internationally as well, "Don't Don" breaking the record for being the highest racked Korean album on the G-music Combo Billboard Chart, even surpassing albums by Dong Bang Shin Ki and Shinhwa. At the 2007 M.NET/KM Music Festival held on November 17, 2007, Super Junior was nominated for seven separate categories and winning three awards which included: "Netizen Choice Award" and "Mobile Popularity". That night, Super Junior also won "Best Artist of the Year" and thus, recieving the highest recognition at the cermony. On December 14, 2007, Super junior recieved two more awards at the Golden Disk Awards, a "Bonsang" and the "TPL Anycall Popularity Award"

October 2, 2007, a third Super Junior sub-unit called Super Junior-M was announced. Consisting of Hankyung, Siwon, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Yeowook, and two non-Super Junior members Zhou Mi and Henry, the creation of Super Junior-M caused a lot of controversy. Although the sub-unit caused controversy between the fans and the record label, Super Junior-M still had phenomenal success in China which included: two sold out concerts in Hong Kong, top weekly ratings with appearances on variety programs, and becoming the idol group with the most endorement contracts in China. With more than half the members absent, another Super Junior sub-unit was created to keep Super Junior for disappearing off the Korean music market. The members of Super Junior-T, excluding Heechul, and Yesung formed the sub unit Super Junior-Happy. On June 5, 2008, Super Junior-Happy released their EP "Cooking? Cooking!" and promotions of the EP ended on September 7, 2008 and lasting only four months. Super Junior-T returned in November of 2008, but this time they were marketed in Japan, pairing up with comedy group Moeyan to become Super Junior-TxMoeyan. The Japanese version of "Rokkugo" called "ROCK&GO" debuted at #19 on the Oricon Daily Charts and soon became number two three days later.

Super Show, Super Junior's first major tour, began on February 22, 2008 in Seoul. Super Show covered three countries and had shows on six different cities, including Shanghai, Bangkok, and Beijing. The single peaked at number four on the Oricon Daily Charts it's first day and dropped to eighth on the second day, breaking a new record for being the first Korean single to have ranked within the top 10 on the Oricon Weekly Chart. August 2, 2008, Super Junior expanded to Genting Highlands, Malaysia, being one of the top guest performers at the MTV Asia Awards 2008 alongside performing artsits such as OneRepublic and Jabbawockeez.
